Zip line?

I was wondering if any of you have rode on a zip line? I'm going to Maui this coming weekend and have reservations to go on 8 zip lines strung over tropical gorges. I'm not really a "heights" person; but it's not like I have a phobia. I'm wondering how you slow down at the end of the line? Must be some kind of braking mechanism huh? My 20 year old daughter is pretty nervous about it; and I'd like to ease her mind. (Yeah; I gotta keep saying it over and over. "It's my DAUGHTER who's afraid of it")

The angle goes more horizontal at the end and you slow down, or the tree, whichever you prefer......

We made one as kids years ago, early 80s or something. We used a piece of broom handle tied to a pulley with the long rope between two trees...........yeah........alot of us kids got busted up. ![\/][](http://www.bigblockdart.com/Smileys/classic/finger020.gif) It was fun though. The hardest part was jumpind off at the end before you hit the tree.

I think the cable has enough slack in it , that by the time you get to the other end you are really going up hill . so gravity does most of the stoping . that one angle sounded like a jet air plane going by.

the one i rode had a big ass rubber tire mounted on the wire about 10ft from the bottom pole... you hit that sucker and you STOP!!! well... first you flop around a bit but you get the idea...
