Beefing up my K member
« on: March 21, 2008, 04:04:40 PM »

I saw that Schumacher offers B motor mounts for putting the motor on a slant K member. If this is a good way to go, I'll keep my K member for the B block and beef it up. This summer I'm hoping to pull my K member during an engine swap (not THE swap. This is just installing a fresher slant to last me until the big block). Figured that'd be my best opportunity to beef it up, add a skid plate and clean & powdercoat it. Is there any guidance as to where a '74 A body's K member's weakest points are, and where it can be beefed up to avoid flexing and (if there's even a risk of it) breakage?

Dick will even sell you his reinforcement pieces as a kit for $99.  Saves a lot of cutting and grinding.

From firm feel.  2 rings for the lca pivot, 2 rings for the strut rod area, 3 pieces for the steering box mount and a skid plate.

Sweet! Now that I'm looking at getting myself a welder, that sounds like a good way to go to me.
