I have noticed a few references to 1964 Barracuda's here, and it makes me wonder.... How many 1964 Barracuda owners are here? Would be curious as to how close the VIN numbers are.

Big range, 23 433 produced. It is possible though. My good friend had a B5 70 Challenger RT sold new at Prince Albert Dodge in Edmonton AB. He met a fellow in Thunder Bay years later with a B5 70 Challenger RT as well and the funny thing was that the VINs were one digit apart. We could not believe that these two cars were born right next to each other and then met again years 20 years later.

Guess I goofed that one up. I originally intended to mention that I have a 64 and I was curious as to how many others on the board own them. According to VIN decoders found on the web the last six digits were the production sequence number. With only 23,433 being built (5 digits) why would they use a 6 digit sequence number? And from what I have found the sequence number started from 100001. Just curious, I guess.

I think that the first # in the sequence is specific to the plant the built the car.I do believe that on the early valiant and barracuda website there is some info on that. I'll have to find it. Rob

All Hamtramck sequence numbers start at 500001 (for theValiant/Barracuda/Dart models only), and the Los Angeles and St. Louis plant sequence numbers start at 100001, as do all other passenger cars built at the Hamtramck plant.

Well, I have one! There are very few here in the UK, but they were no where near as popular as the 67 and later cars. Mine was imported in 1968, pulled apart about 20 years ago and I've bought the whole thing in boxes! If it was totally original and unmolested, it would be worth restoring. but this one is getting the big block treatment!

It's a Tilton. I had a Keisler, but it failed after about 150 miles.

Well, my '64 Barracuda has arrived from the wilds of Scotland...I've got all the parts (I think!) and it's getting a 500 stroker, 727 and narrowed 8 3/4"... looks like I've got some work to do!

Whoa...Do I have the first one??? Its a '65 model year Formula "S" built in 64. VIN 5540100001, number on radiator support? Seems odd an "S" would be the first down the line for 65...too bad I hacked the inner fenders.... bought it a copper color but the plate said it was silver coded paint so I went back to silver.

It's taken me a while to come up with the Tilton info, but here it is.
I started with Keisler. Long story short... after two kits and lots of money, it's in the land fill. I went with Tilton this time. The setup is made of a threaded bearing retainer 61-617, and the hydraulic release bearing 61-601. I bought this stuff from Summit. The transmission I am using is an overdrive with a CenterForce 10 1/2" clutch. The photo in my entry above shows the Tilton setup mounted on the input shaft. I'm not quite done with the project. I still need to install shift rods. So far, this project has been much easier than the Keisler kits. I've got the system bled, and it works like butter!
I've had this car 14 years now, and I'm learning in all this that 64-65 A-bodies have a specific shifter plate. Does anyone have a photo of the shifter coming through the tunnel hole? I'd like to see it for reference. Jamie Passon tells me that a second generation plate will position the shifter toward the rear of the car possibly causing interference with the floor tunnel.
Here's the photos of the project so far.

Are you using the master cyl. from the keisler kit? I'm running a wilwood that mounts right next to the brake master. I like your setup better. of course I've already hacked everything up so Im kinda stuck with it.

Nice looking car Detriot iron, I see your adding an overdrive tranny, what did it come out of and does it bolt right in?

Yes, the master is left over from the Keisler, which I think is really a McCloud unit... reboxed. The overdrive transmission is out of a '79 Dodge van. I took the tail shaft off since it's too long, and replaced it with an aluminum one from Jamie Passon. He's been good with helping me sort out what I needed. So, now it's an A-body aluminum overdrive transmission, and yes, it bolted right in. Well, I had to change the yoke on the driveshaft. I also had to change out the shift rods. Jamie assisted me with that too.
One draw back of the aluminum transmission. It's noisy. The aluminum doesn't insulate against sound and vibration as well as iron. It almost sounds like a Munci!
I sort of hijacked this thread, which I didn't mean to do. My apology to the original poster.
