Seeing Andy's post got me motivated. I'll post some pics if it helps you with your project. I have the S and W 8 pt with pro street down tubes. These tubes allow you to keep the back seat. I got the steel kit because I'll throw the savings over Moly at my stainless exhaust. That will be tigged Form the sill plates with oxy acetylene torch and a 2" pipe for contour Down tubes are tacked to B hoop. hoop follows the angle of the B pillar window approx 5 to 7%. B hoop is as close the the factory bucket seat as practical. Tubes and plates are tacked to trunk. Drill a 2 1/2" hole in the floor; one per side. This allows you to lower the hoop through the floor to get 100% weld on the down tube to B hoop. The other holes are body floor plugs. Thanks for the idea Bob Shingler. Head lines also will be replaced but having it in helped get it as high as possible. The roll bar pad should be right at the headliner. Also, poor boys notcher works sweet.

Break tacks loose on all 4 plates. Lower the B hoop down through the floor. Weld top tubes. I went two pass uphill

Set the bar on the plates and weld the B hoop and down tubes up. Two passes on the tube to hoop (hot root and cover). trunk I am going to weld in some outriggers under the plates, but do not intend to penetrate the floor. Now time for some brew and I'll get back on it tomorrow.

Tom, I'm not really up on the NHRA rule book, but I had a guy working for me years ago that was. He ran a Super Gas dragster. I remember him telling me never to polish a weld on a roll bar. The welds had to be visible. Yours look spectacular. I don't think you'll have a problem.

Tom, did you weld the openings in the rear to access the rear quarter windows closed? How will you install the glass? Or is it an optical illusion?

I didn't weld the side openings, just an illusion. I hit the welds with a 4 1/2" stringer bead wire wheel. I did it out of habit. All our welds on the job (pipe) get wire wheeled prior to inspection. But afterwards, I thought oops; I wonder if this is considered grinding? If I have a problem at tech, I will walk the cup over the weld with the tig torch and all will be good. Swing out bars http://www.bigblockdart.com/index.php/topic,28410.0.html

No, you're just not supposed to grind the weld. Ever see that polished stainless cage in Rick Dobbertin's J2000? As cool as that is, it would never pass tech. Every joint in it is smooth.

No grinding on the welds Tom, wire wheel is fine. The nhra inspectors just want to be able to see the welds. Shoot, they'll probably take pictures of yours.

Thanks guys. I'll get more pics in as it progresses. I promise the tig the exhaust for you. The price of the steel S and W kit was just too affordable.

Good job Tom, looks killer as usual. Can't go wrong with the SW kit, that is what I started with as well. Very nice fit (I think) for the money allowing the usage of the interior. Also, I have been hitting mine with a wire wheel. Should be fine, just don't use a hard disk!
