Direct Connection / Mopar Performance "Bibles"
« on: March 30, 2008, 12:22:15 AM »

How many have atleast one edition of the Direct Connection / Mopar Performance "Bibles" ?

MOPAR - 9th Edition Engine Speed Secrets Manual
Racers have long considered Mopar Performance Engine Speed Secrets Manual and invaluable tool to keep in there shop. The 9th edition of this racing bible includes more than 100 new pages detailing Mopar extensive development work in areas of cylinder head technology and air flow. The book emphasizes v-8 engines but also provides extensive coverage of ther four cylinder, six cylinder and v-6 engines. Engine blueprinting, supercharging and dozens of other performance subjects are detailed with pictures, charts and graphs.

These are still a must have for anyone building , modifying or racing any kind of Chrysler Corp`n vehicle . Mancini has them among others .

I've got the direct connection compilation manual, its been very helpful - the amount of info crammed in there is crazy - 877 pages.  It has everything from supercharging hemis, to roll cages engine blueprinting, engine/body mods for SS cars, old hemi mods, chassis/drivetrain, engine swaps.  Heres a pic or two:

Some where I have a small block manual. I got it when I rebuilt the 273 in my 65 Dart GT. That was in '72 and a friend gave it to me. So, it may be old enough to be a Hustle Stuff book. I'll have to see if I can find it. I gave my 68 shop manual to Tidewater Mopar Club to help with their give-a-way 68 Fury. I hope I didn't give that little manual away too, it would be interesting to thumb through it, Joe.

I remember back when you could call chrysler and they'd send you the individual "tune up tips".  This was before they were smart enough to put them into book form and charge for them.

I've got the Engine manual in the garage, since it's snowing today I'm not sure which one I have.

OK, when Direct Connection used to put on Drag Race seminars all over the country, who of you has ever attended one or many? I went to one many light years ago. I believe it was put on by Larry Shepard, I still have a few of the single handouts they gave out. Boy, I was a kid back then.

Nice thread!                 thank you

Yeah "Hustle Stuff" used to do that in the beginning (1970-73 ) .Then those manuals were compiled and was superceded by the first Direct Connection "Bible" (see pic) in the later 70`s . That one has been updated several times to date . I got a kick out of the one`s that were called "Carol Shelby`s Speed Secrets" Laughable ! Inside was a disclaimer stating all info included was by Larry Sheppard of Chrysler Corp'n at the time. Anybody doing anything with a Chrysler Corp`n  vehicle NEEDS these manuals , get em' before they dry up !

I (or should I say, my dad) has a DC book that he bought in 1980 or so. It's come in handy for quick and easy reference for stuff and saved my butt several times. We also (between the two of us) have the newer small block book, big block, chassis manual, and I think there might be something about the slant six laying around here somewhere too.

Interesting literature. Cheesy

.....If anybody has a spare DC "bible" they want to part with for a reasonable price, let me know. I don't think I'll be living at home forever and it'll be a frosty day in July when my dad lets me take his with me. lol

Honey has the small block ones, plus al of my Dads old Chiltons manuals ....all the way up to 1981, which is when he retired!   Man, those bring back memories, especially Dad telling me "Go look it up"  Thats why Ive got those books!    Of all  7 kids, it was the youngest and the girl that followed in his automotive footsteps!! Grin      I still believe thought he forgot more than most of us will ever learn.

I just ordered the Big Block Manual, Chassis Manual, and Speed Secrets Manual from Mancini.  The total was $35 for all three!  A lot of the books are on sale right now it looks like.

I have the chassis and engines manuals, there is a lot of wrong information in them, part numbers, theories, etc. A lot of stuff has been proven to be wrong, you really can't consider them as a Bible, but a good starting point with some good ideas, but take them with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to casting numbers.
