Hmmm. Lets see, 1000hp small block for street, Pump gas,
Thats a lofty goal.
Id look at a 500+ ci. big block with good heads and a Procharger and EFI.
Steve morris had a video up on his Dyno of a 1450 hp BB at about 12psi boost,
pump gas. drop back to 9psi and an easy 1000hp
http://www.stevemorrisracingengines.com/chrysler-engines.html
That's a cool video---but answer me a question if you can-why does the torque peak out earlier than hp--what I mean is why does the torque peak at lower rpm than hp

 Magart,
I can't tell you why technically but, all gas engines make peak torque @ a lower RPM than peak H.P.    For instance the diesels I work on make peak torque of upwards of 1,800 ft. lb. @ 1,100 rpm but peak hp is around 1,800 rpm.  I'm sure someone on here will chime in and can explain why.

I have attached a previous thread of a small block on the dyno. If you scroll down thru it there's a copy of the dyno sheet. You will notice peak torque @ a lower rpm. than peak hp.               :    http://www.bigblockdart.com/index.php/topic,26793.0.html

The diesels make all that torque down low because they have WAY more cylinder pressure.

Of course all engines make peak torque at lower rpm than the peak power. That's simply because power is a result of calculation based on rpm x tq. The closest you can get is the peak power and peak tq at the same rpm, and thatäs assuming that after the peak tq number the tq immediately dives.

Not being the most knolegable engine guy, I have been told by a couple of builders that 360 blocks are reaching there structural limits at @700hp.  Some have done it and made them last over the 700hp range, but this is what I have found out.  Saying that I had a 426 stroker built by Dave Hughes and recently dynoed at conservative 621hp and 520 torque.  The motor was under carburated, and too small of headers, with those areas changed it could see the 650hp range and 550 torque.  The motor is set for pump gas with the following:

360 race prepped block by Hughes
426 race stroker kit From Hughes
Hughes main girdle
compression at 10:3
eddy stage 3 port/polish
Hughes Hyd.roller cam HER 6468AL-7
eddy super victor stage 2 deep port/polish match
holley 750
1 5/8 headers

I coated all parts with the appropriate ceramic coating (thermal containment or dissipation) , inside and out.  (bearings, rods, pistons, heads, valves, springs, block, intake, ect.)  Dave is going to have a complete write up on this on there web page maybe by next week.
I wanted to use 150 shot of spray on this and was recommended not too.  The stroker piston top ring is to close to the top and they feared it would not hold up.  Also, he feels that the structural integrity/longevity could be an issue.  Because of this I have a R3 block at Hughes now and is set for 442cid with no stroking, and I will be able to use spray.  This combination will be similar to the 426 for street use, I did bump the compression up to 11:5.  I would imagine this will be in the 650 - 675hp range plus the juice.  Anyway a 1000hp will be a bunch, good luck.  I will be selling the 426 for what I have into it within the next week or so.  Working on the exact price

Wow that's a lot of power from a small block on pump gas.  I'll have to say that turbo would probably be your best bet.  I don't know much about aftermarket small blocks.  But I would go with 408 stroker kit with probably compression down to about 8:1.  I think the indy heads could handle the job with the turbos or a set of heads that flow about the same.  The cam that was mentioned earlier for the cuda looks pretty good, I'd think something with a little more lift, around .600, would be better.  You could grab a couple Holset hx35 turbos off the 5.9 cummings rams.  Not the best choice for the turbos, but they'll work and you could get them cheap.  You'd need to boost 18-20psi for 1000hp.  So you could probably use the stock wasegates.  Also not the best, but cheap.  Also you mentioned something about using a single turbo.  That could work too, but you're gonna have to pay more for something that big.  Definately intercool it.  If you don't know much about turbos pick up the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell and check out turbomustangs.com.  I know the website has "mustang" in it, but there's a mopar section.  Also check out the junkyrad section.  Do a lot of reading about what everybody else is doing and asking.  There's a lot of "junkyard" things out there for turbo set ups.  As long as you're not trying to make it a show car.  Good luck...

Think3205 - Personally, I don't care for the stuff. I subscribe to the belief that, "... if you can't build it, spray it!" It just seemed like somebody ought to inject that theory into the discussion. I've known folks to do similar stuff street racing so it only made sense to forward the notion. You know, no real motor just a big unit.

Yeah, like a 7 sec VW. It might do it for a while but reality catches up pretty quick.

Bottom line: It will take SOOOOOOO much money that you should have just done a big block and accepted the cheaper price tag.

What are you going to do with 1000 hp on the street in a pro touring style car beside grenade things and twist bodies?
I dont mean to be a dick but why not build a race car and then a seperate street car.

You MIGHT be able to do it with a meth kit.

what's the most power you could get out of a 360 block with mods both safely and reliably? or even a 340 for that matter...which would be better to use?

If interested - I have a brand new 48* R3 block and new Chapman CNC W7s complete with intake (no rocker gear) I will make a great deal on! Heads flow 360 plus.

i'm not to sure of the absolute limit....i would take  the 340 over the 360 since the main caps would have more meat on them since themain bearing journals are smaller...plus that being said their would also be less friction on the crank.

also one big downside of a factory sbd under boost is that their are only four bolts clamping each cylinder...as oppose to 5 or 6....
