Got all the bars welded in on the S and W 8 pt. Instructions say to verify location with local sanctioning body. Do any of you know if there are specific dimensions for swing out bars? Don't see how it would matter. I should just become an NHRA member but that doesn't help me today. Thanks the swing out kit from S and W

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the CLEVIS type kits. They don't rattle like the ones you showed. Chassisworks has them. One end is a weld in clevis type bung, They make 2 styles tube to tube or tube to flat steel.

Thanks for the link. I think Andy has those. And crap. I'd rather have the clevis. I unfortunately have the side bars welded to the hoop and don't want to remove so I am committed to the cheap ones. I'll get them welded up this weekend.

my buddy uses the clevis joints on customer cars that want the swing outs, he welds the bars in then cuts them to put the clevises in.

I see what you are talking about. Instead of just welding the clevis tab to the hoop. Thanks. Also, got a PDF of the rule book swing out section sent to me by a member. The pin must be within 8" of the hoop front and back. Tom

Good deal on the 8" measurement too...

I am good to 10.00. I don't know how deep they will get you with a cage. Bigtimeauto says he is good for 8.50

As long as the swing outs are done correctly they will cert to 8.50. I had a chassis deal in my shop a couple of weeks ago and 4 of the 8.50 cars had swing outs.

Sorry for the thread jack Tom, but bigtime is it any swingout? I assume your running a 12 point as well to be cert'd to 8.50? If this is the case next winter my car is going back to the chassis shop for a cage for certain.

MY car does not have swing outs. I don't mind climbing They have a spec. for the swing out and as long as you meet it your good. all cars need to be certed to run 9.99 and below so the swing out is good from 11.50 to 8.50. There are no swingouts allowed after 8.50 because the door opening needs to be X braced.

My car is going to be street/strip and I'm positive after I get it dialed in should be in the single digits. First and for most I want my family to be able to get into without climbing. I don't mind it, but the wife does, thus the reason I got rid of my last Mustang.

Are you allowed to make the cross bar behind the front seats removable like the side swing out bars, or is that a no-no by NHRA standards?

That's not NHRA legal.
