Yo--Shawn and you other BIG cubic inch/HIGH (14:1+) Compression guys.  What and who's starter are you using.  Mine after 90 days of use went BOOBS up after a kick back.  It was the hatachi Type gear reduction Mini starter.  Broke the shaft while cranking.  Who has a good starter"mini" style yhat has some long-gevity with it.  Tired of replacing starters every 90 days.

I have a Powermaster.  It clears the block the best.  Over 15:1, 557 cubes and 2 batteries.  Never misses a beat. I've had it for 3 years.

Jim--you got a number for yours?  Is it 1.4KW or 1.6KW.  Powermaster lists pwm-9513/19513 at 200#/4.4:1 ratio reduction.

Well you just had me digging through my box of receipts, I purchased it on 6/21/05 from Summit, #PWM-9513.  I had a bearing fall apart but the local starter rebuilder fixed it.  It was a sealed type bearing and the seal fell out and was dangling between the gear and the bearing.

Pull out 10 more degrees at the start and put in two of the 16 volt PM batteries. You will think the starter is going to pitch the motor out on the ground. First time I hit the button, she spun over the oil pressure to 40lbs before I got enough fuel to her to start.

My freinds standing by the fenders had this wide eyed look, two days later both of them are asking me how I hooked my two 16 volt batteries up Cool

If I had an extra 500 pocket change, that might be a good idea, those AGM 16 v batteries are 275.00 a pop.....then 250-300 for the charger.......na.....not in budget

Sorry Man, I thought all you guys that ran those big motors were big money Grin I am just a small block guy, that way I can buy the 16 volt systems.

But really, I have done nothing to my car that has shown more of a poitive result on everything than the 16 volt battery thing. That is coming from a man that just got back from a year in Baghdad and spent almost 15K on my car, while I was gone. The 500.00 to go 16 volts has made the most difference. The cars will crank and start before you can get your finger off the start button. Your electric fan will suck small children against the grill in the pits  !nanr Your electric water pumps and fuel pumps will produce more and run cooler.

I did not have to run a step down for anything in my car, however I insure my shut off switch is off before I connect the charger, it puts 19 volts to whatever is down stream, the batteries put a max of 17.2 after a hot charge and about 16.7 to 16.9 normal.

Be careful with electric fans and water pumps with the 16 volts. They appear to run ok but will start to overheat and surge. You won't notice it unless there on for a bit and your standing in front of them.
You can also just run 2 / 12 volt batteries with a CSR 24 volt startup switch. Thats what most of the supercharged promods run.

As for your car. Make sure you have good voltage going to your starter. Check all your bat ends and grounds. You would be suprised how many starter problems were really just cable/bat issues.

dbl check that msd to make sure it is retarding when cranking. We all know how many msd quirks are out there. If you want more timing retard, you should be able to shut off the automatic start retard and hook up one of your retard stages to the crank power and get up to 20*

Tell me more about this 24V start switch?

Csr makes a switch that will put 24 volts to the starter and still keep the 2 batteries @12 volts for everything else. Of course you are supposed to use there starter but i know of some who are using reg starters.
