I have a 68 Cuda fastback with a 505 stroker I'm putting together . I picked up a uncut Dana 60 when I got the car about 8 years ago from a B body. Well I'm getting closer to getting it done and I hate to cut the B body Dana 60 , They have become expensive , I'm better off to sell it and do another 60 . I wanting to old school the car and I love the Dana under it. Which truck Dana, or any Dana for that matter is preferred to cut and install in a A body, I know some have a thicker axle housing then others I found a 88 F250 Dana locally, I think its a 60, I need to go look at it to make sure , unless there is a better Dana 60 to use Thanks

More plentiful & cheaper, though alot heavier is a Dana 70. It has a 10 1/4 ring gear & are usually somewhere around 4:10 gearing. The late John Dianna of Car Craft Magazine used one in the build-up of his E/MP Duster. I got complete unit (4:10 gears) with posi for about $350 in a junkyard. Don't know what I'm gonna put it in,but I'm certain nothing I can build is gonna destroy it

Take a look at the axle splines on the Ford and see if they're the same as a aftermarket vendor's 30 or 35 spline axles. You could probably sell the B bdy Dana to cover the costs of setting your Ford's up. At least part way anyway.

I'm looking for a B-Body Dana 60. I have a Dana 60 which was a pro-street project that was never finished. It's narrowed, with ladder bar brackets welded. I also have: new Comp Eng. housing ends (not welded), new spring perches (incase I switched to leafs), chrome rear cover, 3.55 gears (installed), 30 spline clutch-type posi unit, and stock length (70 Challenger) 35 spline Strange axles , complete with bearings and 1/2 or 5/8 screw-in studs. I planned on cutting and re-splining the axles to A-Body length, and 30 spline. I'll have to measure the rear width. Let me know if you're interested. I'll get pics if needed.

When looking for truck DANA's make sure of what you are getting.
Ford and chrysler used a lot of DANA 61's in the 80's.Just like the 60 Some have 30 spline axles and some have 35 spline. Some have thicker axle tubes and some even have c clip axles. Be sure of what you are buying. The Dana 61 does not have the same readily available carriers and gear sets that the 60 has. Lower that 4.10 gears gets a little tougher with the 61. The upside of this is sometimes you can get a 61 cheap. I have one with 3.54's . I m gonna weld on 9 inch ends buy some custom shafts and a lunchbox locker and this will work great for a street car.

sell the factory b body piece and order a complete, or just the housing from strange. It will save you time and in the end you are going to spend the same money.

Can you do like you do with a B-body 8 3/4 and just move in the spring perches about an 1" each side and bolt it right in?

Any truck that has a Dana 60 in it is probably going to be a 3/4 ton or up truck... that means 8 lug setup. How hard is it to convert those axles to the same 5-lug pattern that we have?

The axels don't get converted, they get replaced with new 5-lug stuff.

What's done about the pinion snubber? Are there bosses that can be machined and tapped for it, or is there nothing there?

here is Dana's site with manuals for the 60's and others, very good stuff for repairs http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/depdf.aspx?prod=AXLI got a Dana 60 for $100 today, full floating axles, 4.10 posi I will tear into it this weekend . Now I need a rear disk brake kit for it when I get it cut . I was going to use Super Stock springs, now I guess I have to change to a 4 link or something close, Now , what to do with the B body 60 I have ? What do you guys think for a 505 stroker with a 727, 68 Cuda fastback mini tubed rear suspension ? I hope my car goes as fast as my money

This is the part that I don't understand? Most of the time 8.75" ends get welded on and you use 8.75 axels with green bearings. How about disk brakes while your at it? http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/d44brake/bc-1.htm

If this is going in a ford and you already have the usable ford brakes, why don't you just put the ends that were on your 8" ford and re-use the brakes you already have?

doesn't a Ford Dana 60 have more of an offset than a Mopar Dana 60? I ran into problems with that a couple of years ago. I know it didn't line up properly. Just can't remember why..

Does this matter if you are shortening the diff?

This is the part that I don't understand? The diff. shop cuts the ends off, welds new ends on, and makes new axle shafts.
