Do MT ET Street Radials Hook Good?
« on: April 08, 2008, 11:10:48 AM »

I'm trying to decide how to set up my street/strip Satellite.  Run the same tires on the back all the time or load up the trunk with floor jack and slicks for trips to the track and change to slicks at the track.  I know the bias ply will probably hook better on marginal tracks but have people had decent luck getting the MT ET Street Radials to hook at the track?

I've heard good things about them but I decided to go with Mickey T SR radials instead. I don't want to get stranded if it rains

Stranded?!?!? Are they that unforgiving in the wet??

In dry weather:

How do the M/T Street radials do, in normal driving, for traction without a burn out?
Do they have to have a burn out to work? (I understand they will work better with a burn out, I'm questioning their traction cold vs normal radials in the same situation)
Do they handle hard cornering or is that a different tire all together?

That's the problem, all kinds of stuff is running around these days that looks like a 12 second car and then rips off a 9 or 10 second quarter mile.  That means I have to make my Satellite look as stock as possible since it will probably only do a 12.

Im running Nitto 555R Drag Radials now.  the difference between those and the craptastic street meats I had is enormous.  I would be a little fearful of driving them in the rain as theyre definitely dry pavement tires, but I have indeed noticed a substantial difference as far as traction, even without a burnout in a street setting.

for going fast and straight, DR's are the way to go.  not sure Id whip a ton of corners with them, but the car isnt really set up for drift type stuff anyway.

The M/T drag radials hook good,  handle better and, last longer than the M/T ET streets or ET drags, plus changing the tires when you get to the track is a pain in the ass.  Its a toss up on weither to get the performance oriented street tire or the M/T drag radial.  Both have pros and cons.  I dont plan on getting caught in rain storms so I went with the drag radial.  If by chance I do get caught in the rain, I'll deal with it.   I was with a friend one evening  a few years back and we got caught in a storm and he had the BFG drag radials on the back of his car.  We pulled over and just waited out the worst of the storm, and took it nice and slow the rest of the way home.  No big deal.

67salty, just today we pulled a tire and rim and had a MT ET sradial swapped and we got it on the DART now , we should be able to run it with minimum fitment issues the size is 275/60r15. also we are replacing Firestone Firehawks 255/60r15 we got good street hook withthem and trackhook, best 60 ft with them 1.67. We may make a pass thiss weekend with our MT SRadials .  Also any one else able to get these on stk Dart rear?  THE 383Kidd

Yeah, I'm not that worried about getting caught in the rain either.  If I do, I'll be careful and figure out what to do.  I grew up driving on ice in Minnesota so I can deal with it too I think.  Good luck this weekend 383KIDD.

Now listen, I never said you couldn't get home in the rain with drags radials on. I just said it was a pain. I drive my car from the time the salt is washed off the road right until the first snowfall.....including the occasional thunderstorm. This is a streetcar first and after careful research the SR radials seem to be the best compromise (everything is a compromise...even drag radials). I had to ask myself where most of the driving would be and where I wanted the best performance. If they suck at the track then I'll change em there to NO compromise slicks for the 2 or 3 times a year I might go

We made it to the track Sunday, it was a cold and windy day. with our new MT ET Dragradials on. We was expecting some hook, but could not find any.We only saw a drop of .02 from our best with the Firestone firehawks street tires. We made 4  passes ,very disappointing . after dropping  $400 for these MT's. The 383Kidd, was finding it hard to get a good burn out, because of the old routine of just lightly hazing the street tires, now  he was trying to heat these suckers up good , but the  Dart was kicking out to the left drivers side getting the Dart sidesways causing the 383Kidd to let up!Also we now was trying to launch hard , by stalling it up high and slapping the pedal to the floor. The Dart would spin the tires leaving, when we launch like this.We were told these MT's like to be heated up, but our partner was heating his up good , but our 60's was better than his (67 Rustang) we both came off the trailers and The 383Kidd and him ran the same Et of 7.87, our 60ft was 1.88 and his was 1.92 We plan on going to Memphis Motorsports next week, hope to get some grip there!
