Is my car a Formula S ?
« on: April 09, 2008, 10:19:04 PM »

I have a '65 Barracuda v-8 4 speed car. The motor and trans are gone. How do I tell if it is a formula s car? Thanks.

Formula 'S' option included Commando 273, Rallye suspension package, special Goodyear Blue Streak tires and tachometer.  I got that form my 65 pamphlet. Try the early Val. Bar. site. They might have more info.

I believe the tach was Formula S only (at least what has always been indicated). The rear valence should have a rectangular cutout for the large single tip. The lower control arms should have sway bar tabs and there should be a sway bar. I don't know what codes to look for on the fender tag. The VIN won't tell you.

From the www.earlycuda.org website:

"Want to know if it's a Formula S?  On the fender tag of a 65 Barracuda, look for the 'ABC'.... under the AB will be a '31' for the 273 4bbl 235hp engine.  Under the C will be a '2' for the formula "S" package. The car should also have a tach in the dash...."

The tach is a giveaway. The stripe is not, also count the number of leafs in the rear, I think the S has 5 and of course the torsion bar mounts.
