I'm in the process of installing a cage in my 72 Duster and I put the top and main hoop in today but did I put the main hoop too far forward? I'm not planning on using the stock bench but I threw it in there for the pic.  |

usualy the bar goes next to the door jam. more strength and your helmet has a certain distance it has to be from the bar. i think its 6 inches.

I put the hoop even with the inner door jams and its all the way back in the floor where it rises up for the rear of the car. I'm tying it into the frame connecters and rocker panels with a brace between the two. But this is going to be a mostly street car. I'm putting the cage in for strength and safety but its not being built for the track. Does the 6 inch rule apply every time your on the track?

Alright, Your dart sport is basically the same as my Duster right? I really think that it is just the picture making it look worse but according to where your hoop is, mine is in the same location. I'll see if I can get a better pic tom. I know its not as far forward as it looks in the pic. I took it with my phone too so that doesn't help. |

When you sit in the car your helmet (not head) must be w/in six inches of the main hoop. It usually sits right at or just behind the trail edge of the door.

What he said. It looks a little too far forward in the pic, but it sort of depends on the driver. Maybe you are 5' tall and need the seat way up? |

Helmet..Roll cage is sitting on the crossmember....figured helmet distance and axle location for ladder bars...guess what...dead on the money...Dang we are good sometimes.

After a little reworking it I was able to move the top hoop back about 2" and now it sits better....I'll get some pics up soon.
