XHD Springs WTF............ not happy
« on: April 15, 2008, 12:44:51 AM »

I finally got caught up on all my stuff so I went out to the garage to work on the car (66 belvedere). I installed the XHD springs that i have had for years. They were bought new just never put them on. I think it now sits lower than it did with the 273 3 speed springs. I thought they would at least give the car a little rake.............nope the car sits dead flat. Is this normal HuhHuhHuh explode

Yes it is, XHD springs serve as a stock replacement. Super stock springs on the other hand raise the rear quite dramatically, so much I need to bring her down about an inch.

It probably wouldn't cost a lot to have a spring shop re arch them for you.

Mine did the same thing on a '66 Charger. Got 3800lb Super Stock Springs now, has a real nice rake to it.

a simple solution  to give her a little more rake would be to add a couple extra leafs....

 agree agree agree

Just add the leaf that is directly under the main leaf from your old springs and you should have exactly what you need ...

I may try the adding a leaf but I am leaning toward the SS springs. Does it matter that it is a stick all they list is automatic ones

Not as far as I know, doesnt make sense that they would make different springs for different tranny types. Then again I dont really know.

A stick car is harder on the springs .... more violent when shifting ...

I guess ypu can look at it like this, if you had an automatic car and changed it to a manual shift most people did not change the springs and it seemed to work just fine, granted the stiffer springs would be better for hard launches and shifts but if you are not going to be in heavy competition does it really matter.  Dunno  I have super stock springs on my fastback and be;ieve me they are really stiff. If I were you I would add a leaf and use the money you save on something else. Just my way of looking at it. Lets see some pics. Good luck and have fun.

If they were the same as the '68 to '70 B bodies, the springs were the same for manual or auto. I have the XHD on my '69 with 295 50's and they do not hop when I dump the clutch.  I dropped the nose a hair and had it realigned with the slight rake.

Put on 3800lb SS springs and car looks awesome. I had to use the upper hole to get it where I wanted it but it looks great. Not to low not to high just has a good rake  Grin

My DC Chassis book lists different leaf springs based on weight, and transmission.
