can i just connect the wire to the + side of the coil?

the first switch in front of the starter button is the ignition switch

You should run it off of the ign. switch with a fuse in line somewhere. However, with the ignition switch on, you should have 12v. to the pos. side of the coil or it won't start!. Do you have a fuse box in the wiring anywhere? Somewhere in the fuse box there also should be a 12v. power source.

Painless makes little fuse blocks that you could mount under that dash and feed a few circuits.

I got everything to work, the fuel gauge and the volt gauge, for a 12v power source i spliced into the tach wire.

My volt gauge reads 11 volts with the ignition switch on and the car off

heres a pic of my fuse block

so that means that they would only be on when the car is running?

is it better to have them wired up there?

unless you want a drain all the time when the car isn't running. the big post on the solenoid comes right off the battery anyway, it'd be just like hooking direct, I installed a big hidden cutoff switch that interrupts this line. That's also my theft deterrant, it cuts off the fuel pump, starter solenoid, and ignition box (switched 12v, there is also one that is always hot with the key). In order to start my car both the key and the hidden switch need to be on, but if I turn the off only the switch(after it's already running)  the car will still run until the carb is empty. Don't ask me how that all happened, but it does help when doing any carb work because I can drain the carb without draining the tank

my car has a kill switch that when the kill switch is off, everything in the car is off and NOTHING works. when i flip the switch on, then all the electricals work.

when the cars is running and i flip the switch to off the car imediatley turns off.

Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't the "accessory" side (OEM) activate the gauges when the key is turned that way. If not, it wouldn't be a bad thing to have so you could check the status of things without powering up the whole ignition system. I think one of my Chargers did that so I just figured they all did it.
