Yeah, I work on these

There was an article in PHR (either that or CC, can't remember cause I've been picking up both mags at the BX here) about Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Duster, and in the pics of it, the side marker lights are mounted flush with the sheet metal, as opposed to the stock lights that stick out nearly half an inch. Has anyone seen these commercially available, or is that likely a custom thing he had done? I love how clean it looks, so I'd like to find a set for my Duster if I can.

They appear to be the stock 70-71 recessed side markers.

Wow. Now I feel stupid. Here I am looking for aftermarket parts and trying to see if maybe there's a newer vehicle with OEM lights that might've been used. Now to just find a repro or NOS set...

Don't feel stupid - that wasn't my intention. You won't find any repro stuff and NOS is pretty slim except for the lenses. You can find used bezels but there's a flange stamped into the fender and rear quarter to accept them. If you really want these then it would be easier to find the early fenders complete or that area of the fender and graft it in. Same deal on the rear quarters. If you have to replace your rear quarters, you could buy the early skin.

, no worries. I didn't realize that the lights mounted differently though. I suppose I could just get the older quarters as long as there's no difference aside from the marker light area (gotta replace both full quarters already). Fenders I wasn't planning to replace. There is some cancer though, so I suppose I could easily do it if I can talk myself into spending the money...

saw an article a year or so about a guy with a 72 b-body, maybe a satellite?, they talked about how they made the recessed lights work on the 72 and how they did it. Can't remember which magazine, maybe mopar collector guide.

I would like to see that article. I have a 71 Valiant, and am looking for a rt fender . I have found several over the last couple of years. they have all been over $300, and not in very good shape .or they are so far away from me that shipping would be crazy . I have thought about modifying a later fender ,but my body work skills are "0" . I think most of the replcement Qpanels are for the 70/71 years

I'll have to look at it again , but that is a pretty deep recess, at least 3/16 '' is there a flange tool that will go that deep ? plus the corners are round not a 90*

I've been snooping around to see how much I could expect to spend on a pair of 70-71 front fenders in good shape, and DAMN. It's looking expensive as hell if I want to do that just for a cleaner looking set of side marker lights. I found these on eBay and yeah they're in good condition, but $750?! Jebus. Anyone got a decent pair of 70-71 Duster fenders they're looking to get rid of?

If you want "clean", you can shave them altogether.

I considered that, but I'd still prefer to have the lights there. Granted it'd be worlds easier to shave my '74 fenders and quarters. But where's the fun in doing something the easy way?
