Auto meter Autogage series...anybody use them?
« on: April 19, 2008, 11:44:51 PM »

Hey just wondering if anybody uses the autogage series from auto meter...they are supposed to be for those on a budget and they are priced fairly well...does anybody here use them, and if so what are the major differences between them and the regular autometer gauges? Is it the parts used to manufacture them? if anyone knows please share

I have used Autometer gauges in all my cars. I would venture to say that the casings are what makes them cheaper and the backing in the gauge. I would not doubt there accuracy as Autometer is a very good gauge and if you're on a budget , I would have full faith in them. You can go to there website and ask them directly .............Autometer.com

I just bought their oil pressure/ water temp gauge.  The fit and finish of the produst appears to be good, but I won't be able to tell you how they function until I get my engine in the car and running.  Probably about 2 more months.

I used a set a few years ago, they seemed ok at the time. Be realistic though, if they were as good as Autometer at a lower price then who'd buy the more expensive ones? I think they're good on a budget though

I definatly agree with you there...but like I said if you are really on a tight budget and you need the gauges would the autogage ones work well (although obviously not as well as auto meters), or are you better off trying to fork over enough for the autometer stuff?

I don't exactly know what the differences would be, I just know they have to cut production costs somewhere, and if everyone says the fit and finish are good. I wonder where the cost saving comes from?Huh? Huh

Im thinking that is maybe the actual quality of materials as well as how much attention they put in to making sure they will work right....but thats why im asking what the differences are, because from what I can see they arent too far off from eachother

Cool...Im assuming you mean the autogage monster tach is what you use...Obviously not as good as the auto meter ones but if money is tight and they work fine, then why not? definatly something to check out to save some money than

True, there is i certain "brand name" appeal to running Autometers I guess. I never had my mechanical Autogage's fail after several years. I just bought Autometer's this time because I can and because all the pro's seem to run them, seriously though there are several other good brands out there as well which may be cheaper than AM. Stewart Warner for one, Equuis, etc.
