My gas gauge quit working and before I could work on it I had a new exhaust hung under the car. When I got it back it was working again. Must have been a bad ground and they bumped the tank a few times. Eliminate one possabilty by running a temp wire from the tank to ground and see if that corrects it.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
Sometimes the pins on the circuit board(s) go bad and they don't get the signals from the senders any more. If you've been poking around under the dash they may have been bumped or pulled and lost their connection. There are ways to fix them, but it requires removing the dash completely and soldering the pins to circuit board via a thin wire to the pin and then to the board. Annoying, but reasonably simple.

Knowldge is power, power is speed, speed is good, low E.T. is better
With both gauges quitting at the same time it's likely that your voltage regulator has gone bad or power or ground has been lost to the voltage regulator.
