Windsheild Trim Retaining Clips
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:54:58 PM »

Hey all,
I just bought the clips that go around the windsheild to hold the crome trim on. After looking at the clips in the bag I found there are 4 clips that are different from all the rest. Does anyone know where the 4 different clips go ? Corners maybe ?  Thanks

"they"say they go on the top. 2 on each end.
when i tried to fit the trim i realized i needed the regular clip there so i'm not using them.
I'm interested in how yours fits,do you have pics?where did you get your clips?

I bought them from "Mega Parts" In WI. They seem to stick up a little taller then the original ones, but the old ones were in rough shape and couldn't be reused. I pulled the car apart 5 years ago ,so I don't remember where the smaller clips went. Do you suggest putting the trim on to see how it will fit before the windsheid goes in ?  I don't have any pictures I can post right now....Maybe Tomorrow.

i'm doing the same thing right now.
yes get all your trim fit and dialed now so you don't have any problems with the trim being loose when the glass is in

I was dealing with this mystery a couple months ago and I never could get a definitive answer so I had to guess based on some DIY forensics (adhesive and marks I found on the old clips). There are 9 clips along the bottom of the windshield. I had 5 "tall" clips and I put them in the following positions - counting from either end:

1
4
5
6
9

If the odd clips you have are red and real tall compared to the others, they're probably wrong and basically can't be used.

I finally got around to putting the front trim back on today. No matter how you cut it, its a pain in the butt and very nerve wracking with new paint. A small block of wood and a rubber mallet finally did the trick. I still ended up with a small dent.

I do know of a 70 Swinger outside a Junk Yard about 40 min. from me that has the windsheild out of it. I can probably get there Mon. to look at it and see if the clips are still in it. I'm Nervous of the new pant like you said.
