Not enough turns lock to lock?
« on: April 29, 2008, 08:22:36 PM »

I am working on my 72 Dart that was a factory power disc brake car and power steering, I just converted it to manual brake large bolt pattern discs off of a 75 Dart, I kept the factory 72 Dart lower control arm and used the 75 Darts upper control arms spindles upper and lower ball joints, the problem I am having is the that just a shade under two turns of the steering wheel my lower ball joints have raised portions that hit the lower control arms to stop everything from turning too far but I was wondering if I have a mismatch of parts, different lower ball joints or should I grind the raised portions down in order to get more travel so you could actually be able to turn the car around if you had too?

Another question the brake hoses I got are for a 75 Dart also but they don't fit in the factory bracket off of the frame they are too big is there another hose that will work better or I guess I could just grind the hole out bigger in the frame bracket if I have too.

The later lower ball joints had the bigger/longer stop on them. So yes, if you want a tighter turning radius (to match your old radius), you'll have to grind the end of the stops.

The hose brackets in later cars were different too. So again, take a die grinder and open the hole up so that it's round and does not have a flat spot - just big enough to install the hose.

i'm doing a similiar swap right now...looks like the front balljoint to spindle bolts will have to be shortened also as they hit the sway bar tabs about the same time the opposite bj hits the stop

Hey thanks for the info, the die grinder did the trick.
