It seems a lot of guys here and on the other sites have done the big bolt pattern conversion on their A-bodies. Just trying to decide if I should do mine, but cant really decide. Currently my car has the small bolt kelsey hays disks in front and an 8-3/4 small bolt in back. I'm taking off my rallys, basically just because i'm sick of rally wheels on my mopars. Looking for something different. Also I think I have a slightly bent axle flange on the drivers side rear. Wheel wobbles a little as it spins,,, Took the wheel off and the flange is wobbling a little as it goes around too. So I figure its time for some new axles out back, and I dont like my wheels... Is it time to do the swap ? Is it worth it worth doing the swap when I already have disc brakes ? I'm going to buy new wheels anyway and if I do the swap I'll have endless choices of wheels, but there is the cost of the swap to consider. And i've already rebuilt my front end, so i'd be taking off ball joints, upper control arms with new bushings etc. Basically replacing stuff that i've already replaced. If I stay sbp i'm ordering a new set of cragar ss rims,,,, but if I do the swap i'll have to run some cheap steel wheels while I save up more cash for some nice rims. Just looking for opinions, Should I stay sbp, replace my axles, get Cragars ? Or do the swap with new bbp axles, bbp discs, then save up for rims ? I've been trying to decide on this for a long time, and I guess I need help deciding what to do. P.S. I already have a buyer for my current rims, so dont ask. Thanks Scott P.S. The Cragar rims in my Sig pic are photoshopped onto the car. I currently have rallys

I think as long as you gotta swap axles, you may as well bite the bullet and go all the way. If nothing else, it'll open the door for a wider selection of wheels.

There are severals ways to do this swap one way is to keep your stock drum brake spindle and goto scarebird and get a bracket that you bolt on to your spindle and a sleeve for your inner bearing to convert it to the newer style calipers and rotors, you can email him on questions and he is pretty good at getting back to you. http://www.scarebird.com/12802/15601.htmlKevin

My bad I didn't read your question very well I see that you have the small bolt pattern disc brakes yet oops! I am not sure if this will work I am sure someone on this site has tried it but get the sleeve for the inner bearing from scarebird and since it seems most of the disc brake stuff interchanges on B, E, J, M , A bodies depending on what years and what parts you get the complete brake system off of 73 and newer B, E, J, M, A bodies minus spindles and I am thinking it should bolt on and you can chose between the 10 3/4 or the 11 3/4 brake rotors. This way you should be able to keep your existing upper control arms and spindles. This is idea that might work since I was thinking about trying this until a 75 Dart came along and donated its brake system instead.

I did the same thing to my 67 dart. I had the four piston disc with SBP all the way around. I just ordered some moser axles and swapped to the large bolt pattern in the rear and left the fronts alone. I was running bigger tires in the rear any way and knew I'd never need to put them on the front. My brakes stopped on a dime! They work fine, I think the only reason to change them really is for the wheel options.

You might also find that getting replacement pads will be a whole lot easier too. I can't say that the 10 3/4 disc brakes will stop any better than the 4 piston OE's you already have. But with the change comes the availability of the 11 3/4 Cordoba class brakes. Bigger is usually better.
Oh, by the way, my car was a clone of your's only with a /6 (68 270 LH23) and a vinyl top. It has been "up graded" now though, but I still like it's beginings too.

A-bodies since 1978, this one since 1983

The Cragars will cost about the same as the swap, maybe a little less. Replacement brake parts are a little cheaper and easier to find with the newer brakes, though. I would probably leave it as is and buy new wheels, 15" if you can get them.

The keysey brakes are getting harder to get caliper parts. I'd go all the way instead of just the back or youll need 2 spares. I've got 2 darts, one small and 1 large disc set up.If you do convert,I'd be interested in your old brakes if your interested.I'm having caliper problems on my ragtop.

sweet ride. here's what I did, mainly because I wanted Bill's front and rear suspension parts. The difference is night and day...I could drive it all day vs. having a wrestling match before. Expensive, but worth every penny IMHO

I have a nice set of used SBP axles if you decide to go that way. Make me an offer.

SBP sounds like a way to go. I think the old style discs are pretty good and you still have options like Cragar, Dog Dishes or Mag Covers on OEM rims, and then a small number of others, like Rally Wheels. I run two spares, but I only converted cause I couldn't find any small bolt discs and the car had 9" drums, so something had to be done.
