OK, so i finally finished with the min-tub/ frame connector welding and it's time to prep the floors for new carpet, etc. I chipped out the old seam sealer and applied rust converter to all rusty /exposed metal including the new welds. It seems to be going along well with the rust and exposed steel turning into black oxide and the rest (including painted surfaces) unaffected. I also bought Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood and a do it yourself Bedliner material (which I bought locally and could be returned) to finish under the carpet and in the trunk.
My question is about whether the Rust Encapsulator and then the bedliner or just one or the other would give me the best results??
I'd say the DIY bedliner won't bring that much to the party on your interior and and additional measure of scuff protection in the trunk. The Eastwood stuff is a high-solids material and should provide good protection against further rust and corrosion. You'd probably want to topcoate the encapsulator in the trunk so the bedliner work well there. It's partially a cosmetic decision.
I used Eastwood inside my trunk extensions, inside the deck lid, and on the interior. Also used Zero-Rust which is very similar.
The eastwood encapsulator works fine, just make sure you get off any scaly rust with a wire brush, then wipe it down with lacquer thinner and spray it on. You can leave it just like that or topcoat it with their chassis black or whatever other color you want. It is a primer.
Just got done putting the encapsulator on, You were right, it doesn't look like it needs anything else on top. I think I'll just return the bedliner crap and use the $70 for gas instead
