Guys, I just got done reading the whole "tire size" sticky thread. I didn't find anything that matched my rims so I thought I'd ask.
I just picked up a set of Cragar Alum Slots. They are 14X7 with a ALMOST 3 in back space. That is, if back space is measured from the mouting surface of the rim to the rear edge of the rim.
I put the bare rim on the front of my 74 dart the other day and it seems to stick out awful far. I am worried about the front tires rubbing the edge of the fender well.
Am I measuring the back space right? Anyone ever use this wheel on a dart? Did it work? Tire size?
Thanks for any info!!!!

That is correct on the back spacing measurement. That leaves you the 4" toward your fenders. You may have to use a smaller diameter tire like a 26" high.
Backspacing is measured from the rear mounting flange of the rim to the inside edge where the tire mounts, not the outside edge. Also, rim width is measured from inside edge to inside edge, most people mistakenly measure incorrectly and think the rims are an inch larger than they really are.
On my Cuda, front and rear front spacing is 4" max to stay within the wheelwells. The rims you have sound like there is not enough rear offset. I have been looking at slots on Craigslist and most I've come across do not have enough backspace to get the front tires tucked in like I want.
