318 Question
« on: May 05, 2008, 08:15:59 PM »

Im starting on my small block build. My question is about the #302 heads from the eighties. Are they a direct swap. Same valvetrain components, head bolts etc. Thanks for the hepl or any advice.

It should be direct swap on all 318's from around 68 to 91(pre magnum) they do have a smaller combustion chamber so it will raise your compression ratio which probably isn't a bad thing on most applications, one area you have to watch is most of the 302 casting heads were on roller cammed motors and I think they have different length pushrods, also you might have to plug the emission holes if you use an older style exhaust manifold or headers, otherwise it should be a direct swap.

The magnum heads can be drilled to take the old intake and are hands down the best production head you can get.
