Now Mark. You and I both know that what happened that day was not Hockey. The Flyers had no intention of trying to skate with the Russians. So if you can't skate with them, beat them up.  |

Well my work day is ruined now! I have to see every related video on youtube now! The good old days. My Mom's boss had season tickets in '77, '78 & '79 and I used to get the Wednesday games at Maple Leaf Gardens about half of the time. Heaven for a 10 year old kid. Tiger Williams was one of my favorites. He was a bully on the ice and a great guy off of it. (long story, bail out now if you want) They sold little souvenier sticks at the Gardens that my buddies and I used to play "mini hockey" in the basement with a sponge puck. (I could tear the knees out of jeans in an hour) I bought one of those sticks whenever I could. On one occasion I waited for ages until the players started to leave through one of the "back" exits to get autographs. (10 years old and it is LATE on a school night) Sittler, Salming and a few others blow by me. Tiger sees the disappointment on mine and my friends face, grabs the stick and has every player that was with him sign it. Class act. |
