Just wondering, but I just came up with an intresting idea.
Could I place a Slant 6, 904, 7 1/4 in a 1969 VW squareback?
I'm just wondering, b/c I figured a 318 would make the car too heavy. (I'm wanting to stick the engine in the front...)
I know this would require many hours of welding, grinding, ect, but think how could that would be?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

That'd be a bear of a project.
a place to mount the radiator would be a big consideration.
Your right, the front suspension is going to be woefully inept.
I'd be looking for another chassis for that project.

I think possibly the 318 would be lighter and shorter than a /6

Yeah, the 318 and /6 are very close in weight. I'd try a 302 ford with aluminum heads on it.

If I went w/ the 302, I'd have to find and buy one, as of right now, I got access to a dirt cheap 318. But what If I re-did the front suspension and made it heavey duty? After a while i got to thinking a Slant 6would be too long. Thanks for your 0.02 Chris. Think possibly the radiator could be mounted in where the engine is SUPPOSED to sit? Kind of, hidden? Thanks for help.

Well, Kid....It could be done, but you'd have to build a complete chassis/frame for that body. Those are mostly a stamped steel pan-type platform, and as such, would barely hold the weight, let alone a batch of torque.
If you really want that bad enough, might I suggest something a bit more practical? How about a V6/auto combo from a Dakota? Either way, though, it's still going to need the chassis/frame built for it. This is one of those ideas that might be best left to the mental exercise arena, as a good many of them get started, than abandoned when the builder finds he's in over his head. (No offense intended.)
(This advice from a guy with a Mitsu-Challenger in his garage, powered by a slant/auto combination.)

I gotta be real frank with ya on this one. You may be too young to realize it yet, but time is much too precious to waste on that "proposed" project...
