What should I charge
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:25:05 PM »

I have a 1974 Ply Duster Hood that a kid down the street wants.

It is a good shell, no bad rust (slight surface on the underside), straight w/no dents. I was going to take it to Carlisle with me. What would I have got for it there? Approx?

The kid down the street is a cool kid, totally into Mopars Smiley I'd never want to hose him, but I also don't want to loose out too much!

Thanks for any thoughts,

Chris E.

The best way to figure it, is to start with $5000 and then subtract what it's NOT worth. The result will be a fair price Grin

Actually, I have no idea LOL

Oh wait... one of my guys has a 74 duster, and he just bought a hood and trunk lid from a guy for $100, if that helps.

If he's a nice kid, struggling to keep (or to get) his mopar going....give it to him.

Parts ofen go cheap at Carlisle, I got a perfect trunk for my 68 Cuda convert for 25 on Sunday because he didn't want to take it home. Paid 50 or 100, I forget, for a very nice hood for the 68. It was part of a pkg deal also, Joe

agree   I would give it to him, and just tell him he owe you one.Thats one reason I run Mopars because of the other Mopar owners that I've met!

I would have no problem asking (or paying) $100 for a hood.  Sounds very reasonable.  If you could sell it locally without having to cart it around, $75 sounds fair enough.   Now, if he's a good kid, I'd have to agree, just GIVE it to him.   You wouldn't be out that much money;  you'd be helping a good kid out;  you'd feel real good about it;  and you'd probably develop a new friendship...

do you really need the money? if not I would give it to him, we need to keep the hobby going and how better than bringing up the next generation as Mopar Kids

You could be the mentor he needs, I remember growing up and the COOL GUY was Dave Cunningham, he had a 64 Plymouth ex state police car with a 440 and a real 440 69 Cuda......

I'm living in the house I grew up in and Dave lives down the street on the corner, he has a very nice 67 Barracuda with a 70 340 and heard he might sell it, I think I need to go see............LOL

Really if you don't need the money you will be rewarded many times over if he is a good kid

i would make him earn. just dont give to him. have him come over and help you do some work on your cars. that way you teach him that things in life are not free and and you can teach him some thing about mopars at the same time. Smiley

Give it to him.

If he's a good kid, he'll come around to help you out or learn from you on his own. And you may have made a friend for life...

If he's not cool, then you got a "Heads Up" as to a potential problem for relatively cheap...as in: don't lend out any tools or waste your valuable time.

Just my opinion.

Hey thanks for the input everyone.

I told him $50.

To those who said "give it to him" I kind of have in a way. I already gave him the grill, wiper arms, some front suspension stuff, and the front seats for free. Sooooo, I did want a little something for the hood Wink

Thanks again everyone.
