68 vs. 73 under the dash stuff ???
« on: May 08, 2008, 04:59:47 PM »

Found a 68 Valiant 2d /6 car in my neck of the woods today. It was not an A/C car. The 73 Dart Custom I have IS an A/C car.

Would it be hard, or even possible to use all of the inside a/c components from the 73 car in the 68 car? I'd like to keep the 68 dash close to unaltered if I can do this.

I bought this 73 as a /6 driver but I just ain't feeling it for that car. I'd like to have another 68 2 door as a /6 driver that would match the one I already have Wink How cool would that be? but I am soft, so I wantsta have my a/c!!!

Thanks for any info.

Chris

PS. Chad, if you are reading this, can you beleive I ran into another 68 val that quick???!!!

It should work. You might have to play around with the controls, though.

Remember, too, that the firewall is different and might need some work.

Jim, thank you. I hadn't really studied the firewall yet between the 68 vs 73. I'll have to do that. I figured there may be some small differences. I think getting the controls to work will be the tricky part. Fortunately it looks like the same vacuum connector for the heater controls. It also looks like most of the a/c stuff is under the dash in both models which makes me optimistic.

I'll have to see of the actually "switch panel" is close to the same in both of the cars I currently have.

Anyone else ever do this?

Thanks!!

I soooooooo knew you'd see this post lol lol lol lol

What I am about to tell you is from the heart! The 73 front end has grown on me. The more I look at it the more I like it. The problems I have with the car are mainly things that are b/c it is 30+ years old. I hate the brakes, I hate the steering (too touchy) I decided I'm not diggin' the 4 door, the suspension is really baaaaad, it handles like ASS and a couple of other things.

If I can outfit the car I want with the disc brakes (albiet altered) air conditioning, lbp rear end and a 35K /6 engine and trans, I'm doing it!

Then I'll sell what is left of the 73. Or put the drums up front, sbp rear out back, and a spare /6 engine I have back in it and sell it.

Make sense?
