You left out the option of not being interested in an aftermarket dash. You will not truly know what the market will bear if you don't take that into account.

Well, yes the survey assumes you'd want to change from stock. Valid point. Survey modified.

why does it require an e-mail if it's just a survey?

If you check the box to be contacted later an email address would be necessary. Even with the box checked, it is unlikely that anyone will be contacted in the future - unless a specific question is submitted in the comments.

If you wish to complete the survey but don't trust I'll keep my word, then put anything in the email field you want - obscenities? It'll go through.

I did it too, but although custom dashes are really cool, and my Mopar dash isn't really very modern. I will take the overall Factory package. Not a priority for me , but If I were ever to build a "pro touring" car.....maybe.

BTW, what are you gettin at anyway?

Just exploring that potential - hence the unscientific market study to see if there is a niche to fill or not. So far, the reaction has been a mixed bag.

My advice, don't do it. One company went out of business, there is no reason another one can do it. Remember, when a person goes out of business, it is usually at a point where they are seriously in debt, and if they don't file for bankruptcy, then it will take years to pay back money owed, all the while, you credit will be destroyed. Sorry, to rain on your parade, but its the stark reality. I still have a lot of printing equipment that is left over from a fail venture, luckily, I paid as I went, so I did not incur any debt, but it usually happens that way.  Sad

Thanks for your input. I've been a business owner for 20 years so I get what risk is all about. However, I don't necessarily agree though that if one persons fails at a venture, then anyone that follows suit will meet the same fate. There are a myriad of reasons for why businesses can and do fail. I'm not anywhere near the point of declaring I'm in the custom dash business - and may very well never do so. Smiley

Have to disagree with flyboy,

Just because one person fails does not mean that the market is not there, it just means that the market was not reached.

Let's say that I already have a metal break, lathe, mill, and tig welder sitting in my garage.  I set up website and take orders.  So long as I don't go out and spend 10K on materials, what am I out?

A buddy of mine was into 55-57 chevys and he was a tool and die maker.  He began to repop a few interior pieces that Dan Chuck wasn't doing.  They were mostly bezels for the few cars that had power windows.  He made the tooling at work, bought a hand powered punch, and had a local plater handle the plating.  He was out about 500 dollars. Sold a boat load of them until Dan Chuck realized what he was doing and made their own, essentially putting him out of business.  (They could make and sell them cheaper)  Even so, he sold enough to cover his costs and pay for his beer.

I worked with him to develop a mid-engine shifter for VW powered Dunebuggies.  The first prototype cost me a thousand dollars.  At the end of the day, I couldn't get the costs down to justify building anymore to market.  But I still had a working prototype that I used on my Buggy.  At the end of the day, I was out about 500 over what I would have spent anyway.  Not a bad investment in learning how to make something.

Regards
