This may sound like a dumb question cause it probably is. But They make headlight shells that you can put sylvania 9003's in however, the 9003 bulb is 5 amp@60 watt pulling 12 v. on high beam but the factory bulbs were 4.69 amp and they are 60 Watt pulling 12.8 v. on high beam. Will the 0.31 amp and .8 voltage difference cause a problem? I got the Sylvania 6024's which are direct replacements for the factory bulb and supposedly pull 12.8v on high 60 watt and 4.69 amps.
Does anyone know about this difference in voltage and amperage... will it melt down the wires or cause a problem with the relays or switch? I'm sticking with the old bulb style factory replacements (6024's) rather than the 9003's unless there is a good reason to change to the 9003's. Does anyone know of any advantages to going with the fancy bulb housing and 9003's vs going old school with with the headlight-bulb? I'm just wondering why they would sell something that fits the old cars that you can't buy bulbs for...

they are both 60 watt bulbs sothey will pull the same current. The battery/charging system supplies to voltage usually around 14 volts when the car is running so if they are both 60 watts they will both pull the same amount of current at the same voltage. a simple formula to sue when figuring this stuff out is " I=P/V where I = current in amps, P=power in watts, and V=voltage in volts.

The advantages are the lights placement more so than the actual output. Folks that I've talked to about it have said that the newer lights or the retrofit lamps put out more usable light down range than the OEM sealed/halogen beams. If you want "more" headlamp lighting period, tap you alternators output post and run it into a relay then to the headlamps directly and by pass the miltiple connections (resistance) to and through the harness and bulkhead and then back to the lamps. This will increase the voltage to the lamps making them brighter and take the load off the headlamp swich and it's circuitry.

Thanks Pure,
I can see how the design of the retro-fit lamps I got would throw more light down the road, that makes sense. I will see how the new "old" head lights that are Cool Blue work at night vs the newer ones. I don't do much night driving anyway, but the old beams are rediculoulsy dim. It wasn't so bad when everyone had dim head lights but come face to face with someone with modern headlights and you can't see a thing.
Thanks, Bob
