I was at a local junkyard last week when I noticed a 68 dart setting on a forklift heading to the crusher. I stop the driver of the forklift and asked to look at the Dart. When he was lowering the dart I noticed how solid the rear quarters were. The car is complete down to the interior and slant six. The real problem with the car is at some point it had a car setting on top of it. The top is destroyed. The posts has been pushed down by at least 2 inches and it has been wrinkled petty bad but the doors must have been open when they set a car on its top,. The doors are rust free and the wing windows are not bent. The rocker panels and quarters are near perfect and the trunk pan is also very solid. Make a long story short I bought it for three hundred dollars. I'm trying decide what to do with it. I talked to a local guy that builds hot rods and he said he could weld a new top on it for $700 and another guy offered me a top from a scamp for free. The toe area on the passenger side floor pan needs replacing (due to a wet blanket laying on the floor). The firewall and framerails are rustfree even the metal around the battery is rust free. It is B5 blue with a black vinyl top , air , power brakes and power steering. I figure at least it would make a good race car. I don't need another project but I couldn't let it get cruched. At this point the car looks bad because it doesn't have any wheels (axles and front hubs are missing). Should I have a top welded on it and sell it or should I part it out? One guy made a good point when he said "They aren't making any more 68 Darts". What do you guys think?

Putting a new roof on is no big deal. As you said they ain't makin no more. And who knows how many Mr. Norm bought up to make the 50 new GSS Darts he's building. He may have bought a bunch of them just to butcher for his 50, Joe.

If you part it out, I need the floor area underneath the front seat on the driver's side BADLY. Just figured I'd mention that . Depending what kind of shape it's in, I would try to fix it.

IMO for what you paid for it no matter what you decide to do with it you will make your money back on it.

just an off the wall thought, but, why not make it a roadster? like ford did with the thunderbird, but better because it's a dodge.

The rodster is not a bad idea. You can make it a 2 seater buy molding the hood of another Dodge into the rear window sills with the nose of the hood right behind the drivers seat. Many years ago a friend was racing short track stock cars and did that and it looked so factory he got questions about it all the time, Joe.
