BBD born this weekend fuel pump question
« on: May 11, 2008, 06:43:00 PM »

Hey Guys, I fired my 67 Dart 383 this weekend.  The car has a Holley Blue electric fuel pump.   Anyways I was having fuel pressure problems before I got it started.   The pump eventually started working and the motor started but the pressure was swinging up and down from 2 psi to 7 psi and the motor would want to stall.   The pump is new but has sat unused for a quite a few years.  I am not real familiar with these but I was wondering if rebuilding it would take care of it and what kit I need.  Summit shows a Check Valve Kit and a Rotor and Van Kit for it.  Which kit do I want to buy or both?   Thanks for your time.   Dan

take the thing apart and make sure all the vanes are free to move.  use some 400 wet or dry paper with wd-40 and sand them down. they maybe rusty from sitting so long. you can use the same gasket again. also the regulator probably needs a new diapham or cleaned up too.

With the pump sitting unused for years, what bOb said is the way to go. If it had some leftover fuel in it , even remanants of , it turned to varnish and needs a good cleaning.

Also what are you running for a regulator?

The blue is a higher pressure pump.
It has a relief for 14psi so you have to have a reg.
