I took my 8 year old to Speed Racer last night. Kinda had a "moment" there in the theatre. Speed Racer was my absolute favorite cartoon as a kid. I think it is the only reason ( save for my dad ) that I am a car guy. I have bought every Speed Racer compolation (sp) that I could find over the years ( Beta too ). My son and I have been enjoying them for a few years now after he decided that he was "in to it". He was so excited when the first trailer came out and we made a father son date for last night ( 8 months in the making ). Every time they stayed true to the orig. with a name or a recognizable phrase, his eyes lit up and the biggest toothy grin crossed his face. He was on his knees for most of the movie. I think that I was watching him more than the movie. That show brought so much joy to my brother and I when we were kids, and the movie brought back some great memories. I guess Speed made a few more memories for Eric and I last night.

Great story I'm sure you and Eric will remember that day for the rest of your lives. Maybe someday he can have the same joy passing it on to his kids.

That's probably be the best Fathers Day gift you could ever receive. My parents split when I was 5 and I never had that experience; so I kind of vicariously live through the experiences of other families. Be it cars, sports, whatever...any shared time with your children is always precious Good job to you, sir!!

non speed racer related....
My brother is taking his son for his birthday to see WWE wrestling as hsi b day gift and as my brother told me his son will be slapping hands with the wrestlers as they come out, my nephew don't know yet though!
The reward of seeing a chidl smile and enjoy what you did for them is something great!
I got no kids but i like to pamper my brother's kids and i'm "uncle" to my buddy's little girl.

I got Jeff this ride when he was 14. He'll never forget the slow ride across the park at Spring Fling.

I agree with those from above and I am a sap for story like yours. I lost my dad when I was 12 and my son and daughter always went to the action cartoon shows together. My son is 21 and he just invited me to go see speed racer with him this weekend. We're going to be the two biggest, oldest kids in the theater. You have brought not only memories, but a tear to my eye. Thanks for sharing your story. Much love to you and your son!!!
