Time to move on
« on: May 15, 2008, 11:59:53 AM »

Well it';s that time where i move on from my job.

I have been here for 3 years being the webmaster and after no real raises after bringing a company half a mil a year online with selling PENS!! YES PENS!!!

and seeing nothing in return i found me a new job.

As they say when it rains it pours and it's true, when i was offered one job i got a call from another job offering 25k a year for being their webmaster adn creating graphics for AD's banners and also doing wraps for their radio station vans.(this job is a tv station and 7 radio stations) and for only 25k?  and i woudl be putting 40 miles(20 each way) a day i looked at spening about $300 every 2 weeks on gas 6k a year and with the added money i would get it woudl be the same as working where i am at now!!!

So i ended up taking the other job offer, I will not be a webmaster, i will be a warehouse manager. You may ask why? are you crazy?! well hell there is more money there for me, i will be making 2.50 more plus commission on top of my hourly pay and i will be 5 mins closer to my house and will no longer have to work weekends!!!!!

I will still do my side gigs on web and graphics.

Just found out after tellign the tv place that i got another job offer for more money now they want to try and meet that price. and i todl myself i would not work on the west side for no less then $30,000 starting and make it hourly none of this salary crap! And in case some of you don't know in my feld pay starts at 35k+ a year. and i'm willing to low ball to get mu foot further into that door but eh, i know html coding and i can back that up with  a strong graphic ability why sell myself short?

I will be happier working in this warehouse i will have my own office, and have 1 person under me making more money then i am now. And in this day and age you have to do what ya got make the cash.

And BTW i'm 23

Sorry for the typos, sorry for a long post i guess you can call it venting. be nice to have that tv/radio gig but the pay ain't there and 40 miles a day $150 on gas a week no dice i can make more money closer to my house.

"It's not how much money you have but how happy you are" a statement i live by You can have all the money in the world and be miserable, or you can be comfortable and be happy.

P.S. i have more time to work on my Demon now

sounds like a good call to me.

you can still web design as a side job and make some coin
steady gig otherwise, for better money

whats not to like?

congratz.  sounds like a pretty well thought out decision

happiness is where you find it, not where other folks think you should find it.

Good call. I hate a long commute anyway. I'm three miles from work and make decent money, but gas can still be a killer.

Also, as for the web and graphic thing. You will make more money doing that as a consultant than you ever will working for somebody else.

Good job find man!

Wish I could do that.

I either need to get another job or get a gas mileage car. I work 15 miles from home... yea... Traffic back though, I get off a 5, don't get home until 5:45. :s

yeah, Im a big 3 miles from work and still got myself a wind-up car for the "commute".  if gas goes much higher here (which we ALL know it will), next step will be a bicycle

its acutally not terrible driving a beater.  especially when you couldn't really care less if anyone hits, steals, or breaks into it.  and 3 miles?  if it quits, I walk...no big.
decent stereo and is underpowered enough to keep the speeds down and therefore tickets.

not to mention the 27mpg/11 gal tank fill once every two weeks sure beats the 9mpg/20 gal tank once a week (or more) of my truck

Yeah, I commute 45 miles each way when WSU is in session.  Even at 27 mpg, gas is killing me.

which WSU is that.

I walk to work every day, although, we're not allowed to have cars here, great on gas mileage. but my truck, 73 - 3/4 ton, with a 440, I'm going to have great mileage when I get back

i won't commute anymore, turned down a few good paying jobs because of it.
i drive about 15 minutes to work.thats enough.
I just applied for a new job at a company 100 yards from my house, better pay but i mostly want to work there for the convienence.
if you drive more than 45 minutes to work,ad up all your drive time for the year.it will make you sick.
you could build a bbd in one year for the time you spend sitting behind the wheel.

I have 4 P/U's and a 16' box truck. Starting next week we are going to a 4 day, 10 hrs/day work week. I'm now driving my 69 Dart daily since it gets 21 MPG. Anything we can do to cut down on fuel costs is more money for other bills.

DartKid, as young as you are, and if your not in school, I would suggest you look into UPS. I've been here 22 years and it's a good job. Yeah there're draw backs, real long hours at Christmas. But the bennies are great. Medical, optical, dental, 401 K, pension, vacation, and more. I get 7 weeks paid time off and that goes up to 8 weeks at 25 years. Last year I made 85,000 and that's just for delivering boxes. You would have to start part time and wait till your 21 to drive. If you live near a big hub you might be able to get full time inside loading the package trucks. Otherwise you would be loading and unloding trailers or sorting packages. Another good thing is we have the same pay scale nation wide. Here in the Metro, Washington DC area what I make is not great. But where my brother in law lives in Ohio, his UPS guy lives like a king. If you put in 3 or 4 years part and then go full time you could retire around 50 years old with 30 years full time. My 30 year pension is around $6,000 a month+ 401K+social security. It sounds like a long time, but if I had started at your age I'd be retired now playing with my cars full time, Joe.

Just to make ya'll feel bad.... My commute is four blocks.  And I still bitch about the gas mileage in the Omni! taunt       I could walk to work, but then I'd have to get out of bed earlier.   moon
