as i've been doing my own work & watching all the posts you guys have been putting up i'm confused now, not so amazing, really. my car 67 dart gt, was T boned, somehow, just caveing in the dr's door & the front half of the 1/4 panel. after working the metal, sometimes till it kept flexing in & out, had to go back, heat & cool, so it would stay in position, i used Bondo to find high & low spots, & rework metal so i wouldn't need Bondo. well, i also used laquer primer to find high/low spots. that's all i had. sooo, now i just about got it good enuff to use a quality primer sealer, but, have some areas to build up. can i use whatever over the laquer, and will it stay? the last guy who painted it used base/clear, can i use 1 stage if it ever gets that far again? comments & questions all appreciated. someone once said you guys are my car club, & i whole heartedly agree with that statement. thanks for the input.

If you seal it, it should be fine, but just to be safe, let it sit for a month before you do, so all the solvents can evaporate. I use epoxy prime reduced 20% for a sealer.

use a ployester finishing putty like "icing" to go over the primer ... "bondo" is meant to adhear to bare metal with 80 grit or rougher scratches. The finishing putty sands out to a smoother edge as well

ok, so i can use the laquer primer & finishing putty to build up, then sealer after, or, high build sandable epoxy primer, then sealer? budget is none exsitent, as i had the laquer primer from another project, that is why i used it. just want to stay within my means. thanks. bodywork really..............is confusing. again, thanks.

no laquer primer, use epoxy with a guide coat...........start blockin and you will find all the spots that need attention.........after some filler and or finishing plastic, you can bury it in another coat of epoxy.........

You can buy a gallon and a half of decent epoxy primer for about $80. Its fairly cheap, cheaper than 15 spray cans of laquer primer.

either/or........it dont matter as long as its rough.......my motto: Get it straight before you get it smooth fender was stripped and coated with epoxy.......i rough any areas in need of straightening with 24 grit.......i like working one big area, rather than a bunch of little spots Disclamer: this works for me, others may have different methods 24 grit (slow, with fresh disc only) filler.....cheesegrate straight, 2 - 3 coats.......sand 36/40/80 on board or block finishin plastic with a guidecoat..... sand with 80/100/180 on board or block bury in epoxy
