I haven't been to a dragstrip in well over 25 years. Now that I am retired, I want to get back in to it, strictly for fun with the grandkids. I have an A body with a stock 273 2bbl that I'd like to race at the local 1/8 mile track. I had the car weighed at exactly 3080#. If I read the NHRA spec books correctly, they rate the engine at 160HP, not the factory rated 180HP. Assuming a driver weight of 200#, I get about a 20:1 weight to power ratio. My old chassis book says that it should turn about 9.85 in the 1/8th. It doesn't show speed. My question, is what speed should I expect so I can calculate optimum axle ratio? I'd like to set it up to be able to go through the traps at about 10% over my peak HP RPM. The car will not be a dual purpose car. Race only. Slow, but reliable with little or no breakage is my goal.

mph is directly relevant to horsepower...it will mph the same no matter what gear ratio...u need to make some passes, see what the mph is and then gear it to et better
