What Hood Scoop?
« on: May 18, 2008, 03:30:19 PM »

What hood scoop do I need to run this induction set-up?  Its a low deck with a Victor manifold, 1" spacer and 4150 carb.  Is anyone running this same set-up?  THANKS.

I would set it in the car and see how high it does set, then decide which one work best.

Yeah, that's probably the smart thing to do.  I'm just trying to figure out what kind of scoop would look best on a 66 dart.  I really like the sixpack scoop.  Hopefully it will clear.

I'm running a 400 based engine in the 68 dart with a indy manifold and a 2" spacer with a dominator carb with a hemi hood scoop and it will fit under the scoop. It will fit with an arrow scoop also.Click on the Rams head for a picture.

Thanks guys.

.oh i noticed you finally picked up a carb  which one did you go with?.......

I ended up buying a stage 7 BIGS 950.  It's got a lot of cool features- billet metering blocks and base plate, I think the venturis have been smoothed out, secondary jet extensions w/ notched float, and some other goodies.  I don't know if it is standard now, but I also noticed the secondaries are easily adjustable without taking the carb off.

Here is a link:

The one I got was very slightly used for $500.  I've already taken it apart and checked things out.  It's got 76 primary jets and 83 secondary, 28 squirters (both), 4.5 power valve (primary), secondary has no power valve.  Should I use one in the secondary side?  Also, should I get some bigger squirters (28s seem small to me)?

In my RR with an RB, Eddy RPM's, victor manifold 2" adaptor and a Dominator it had to run without the 6 pack hood as it didn't fit with the air filter.

The Dart uses a cowl induction hood with a SB 408, EddyRPM's,  RPM air gap and a 70 440 AVS and it is very sensitive to the air cleaner's location under the AAR hood. Darts look evil with the cowl induction, IMO.

I had the Victor intake and edelbrock 750 on my 440 in a Dart Sport and tried to fit it all under a factory twin snorkel scoop, but I couldn't fit any kind of decent sized air cleaner under the scoop.  This was without the 1" spacer.  If I had to guess, I'd bet that you would need at least 4" or more above the outer hood skin.

How much taller is a 440 than a 400?
