Floor pan Question
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:44:04 PM »

My Duster has a soft spot under the driver's seat. I just looked a someone else's post about another with a small hole, and everyone advised him to just do the spot, because replacing the pan can be a big job. My question---how big??? I dont think mine could be fixed, and I'm not a great body man. Anyone know what exactly is involved-how bad can it get? Is the replacement pan the whole left side, or just the left front??

the replacement pan is just the left front ... it is not that big of a deal to do if you can cut and weld metal ...

I'm no body man either but I've replaced my floorpans. Both sides from front to back. I was unable to find anyone who makes a patch for the area under the seat. I made those from some floorpans out of a Daytona. It's really straightforward to do. Even with little experience. The easiest way to do it would be to find a donor patch (4 doors cars will work also) and cut it out bigger than your soft spot. Lay the patch over the soft spot where it matches exactly and attach it with some small sheet metal screws. Then cut through both the patch and the existing floor. This will give you an exact patch that's easy to replace. And the screw holes are easy to weld up also.
