got my rear springs relocated !
« on: May 25, 2008, 12:27:33 AM »

I done the rear spring relocation on my 67 dart this past week, i have a little welding left to do, and i will be done. I got the kit from bill at the car farm. I had him add an extra set of spring holes 1'' back so it will help center the wheel. The kit from bill works great, plus it has the contour of the framerail. I left the outside of the rail in put the boxes all to the inside. The tech pages on how to do this helps greatly.I am going to weld in some 5/8 warshers to help add strength where the bolts go through ,and do some more plug welds to finish.Hopefully i can do the mini tubb before long. Thanks bigblockdart and members for the help!
Matt

I am planning to do the mini tubb next. As for getting the underside so clean. I sent it to Blast from the Past in Lebanon, TN , and had Heavy Duty to media  blast the car inside and out. Then i had it put in epoxy primer. As i go i will post some more pictures. At this time i am working on the left quarter panel were someone had put a piece in years ago. Gangster

I did not do the rear spring mounts at this time, because i may go with sliders. I also am going to have to move them back 1''.Yes the kit that bill sells works out great. With a little help from the tech pages ,and some of the members here ,it was not that bad. Take your time and think things out.

why exactly did you move the holes back 1"? Does the kit move the wheels forward and inch? I am asking because I am about to do the same thing to my '68 dart. I do like the way your kit follows the contour of the frame rails. Where did you get them?

Thanks,
Robert

With a set of holes drilled 1" back, you can get a taller tire (larger Diameter) into the wheelwell without trimming the front fender opening.  Anything over a 28.5" tire gets real tight on the front edge of the wheel opening.  Generally, plenty of room to the rear.

Who did you get the Kit from.  I need one like that.

I do have one ?. The whole for the mounts was pre drilled? I though you had to take measurements before drilling the holes to make shure it was square?

The kit came from Bill at the car farm. I emailed him and got him to drill be a extra set of hooles 1'' back from stock. I did this so that i can run a taller tire and not have to cut on the outside of the quarter panel and to center the tire in the wheel house. Bill was great about the extra holes, and that was one less thing that i had to do.I just put them in using the front holes as the factory holes ,and that will leave the rear holes back the 1''. Hope this helps.
