do i run the hot wire from the switch to the neg. or pos. side of the coil?

what are you using for an ignition system ?   if it is electronic you do not hook the key to the coil the ignition does it for you ... if it is points yuo need to go through a ballast resistor 1st

im hooking it up:  switch to ballast resisor, ballast resistor to pos. side of coil, neg to dist.
