M1 intake, air cleaner and stock hood- its possible
« on: May 29, 2008, 11:09:16 PM »

With my hood scoop grafting project getting no closer to being finished before I head to the drag strip, and realizing they probably wouldn't let me run with the scoop riveted on I picked up another hood off Craigslist to use. I was able to piece together an air cleaner that fit using a DEEP (1.25" I think) drop base and a 2" tall filter and a fairly flat chrome ( puke) top that fits under my stock hood. With about 1/4" to spare its a good thing my motor doesn't move around much, because it is close all around. It may not be ideal and it certainly isn't the look I'm going for, but it will get me racing and let me get the car out for some cruising while I work on the hood scoop grafting project.

I'll snap a pic after I finish up a few things in the garage later tonight.

If it's just a spare, why not just cut a hole in it and put a large filter element?  You could always put a scoop on it as well?  Just a thought.

I really just needed a hood to start over with since I hacked the framework of my origional so badly. Since I'm hitting the strip this weekend there was no way I could finish the scoop, plus I'm still trying to find an air cleaner base to use for the fresh air system it will have.

If money isn't an object, The Paddock has parts for 4 barrel fresh air cleaners. (different base, same top)

And surprisingly, removing it at the strip resulted in no change. I would have swore up and down it would have been a restriction.  Cheers
