Hey guys,
just wondering if a 741 carrier for the 8-3/4 is not worth using....I am looking at purchasing an 8-3/4 a-body rearend for my 71 scamp. The car will just be a daily driven street car which will hopefully see that track sometimes. It will have a mild 340 for now, but hopefully i'll give it quite a bit more power later....Just wondering if the 741 carrier in the rear is not good enough to hold up to this power...i would like to add more power later without having to worry about this....I have heard some say that it will be fine, and others saying that a 741 is dirt...what do you guys think?

i figured that it would be fine, especially for the power im going to be putting through it...but i was also thinking in terms of buy it once and you'll be fine later, so that if ever decide to with a big block or something and start running 12's or faster, that the rear would hold up okay

the sure grip 3rd members are kind of like money in the bank, as long as you dont brake it, you could always re sell it and get your money back.

I'm like oldkimmer I had the 741 cas in the 67 Dart that ran 11 teens and just changed them out this year because of going into the 10's.I've even have an 8 1/4 that been built in the 74 duster going down the 1/4 for over 150 passes best pass off the juice is 12.28.
Side note was at the track thursday and seen a 57 chev with a 9" break the center section out of the car also another 9" shear off all the studs on the right side of the rearend and watched the tire go down the track and then another 9"center cection break. It was not a goog night for rearends
