I just got a Power Master 75 from Greg at MagnumHP which is a 1 wire internally regulated alternator.
Great guy to deal with too.  Smiley

I use a GM style 1 wire alternator.  Small and easy to fit.  Runs fine on the street.

I've got one! It's pre-70s electrical. Don't use a 2-wire without upgrading. I fried like 4... It does okay on the street, but I am constantly tempted to grab the boat battery so it won't go dead as often. (60 amp, apparently not enough for what I run...)

Don't use a deep cycle battery to start your car. The load from the starter will overheat and warp the plates. Best case, it won't last long, worst case... It'll blow up.

That's why I don't use it. It's just a joke about the battery running dead after I run the car 2 months or so. I've used it once to work out some trial and error since it was easier grabbing it than pulling it out of the maze of new car electricals.

P.S.
I like your Vanishing Point quote. I thought the remake was better myself...

If you have an alternator already, take it to a Alternator/Starter shop and have them convert it to a single wire. It's way cheaper than buying another alt if you don't need to.

I've used a yellow top Optima (the group 34, big mamajama) in my truck for about three years now, with no problems at all. I love it. I left my headlights on for 16 hours once and the truck fired right up. Luckily it was a short drive home so I was able to pull it out and put it on a trickle charger instead of cooking my voltage regulator by charging it with the alternator...

That said, I'm planning on converting to a later model Chrysler 94A alternator in my Duster (going to source a Denso unit). With an upgraded charging circuit, it'll charge far better than the old stock alt, and I'll be able to stick close to the Chrysler wiring setup.

On AR Engineering's website, he sells a kit to put a Nissan Pathfinder alternator on either a big or small mopar. I asked my rebuilder about it and he said that's probably the best way to go. Think about it...  Pathfinders have EFI, air, power seats and windows...

An older Mopar would have power a plenty with one of those.
