I may be preaching to the choir here, but I want everyone on B.B.D. to do me a personal favor... Please, buckle up... EVERY time you get in the car, even if it just be to go down the street, and whether or not you're behind the wheel.
Some of you may have noticed I haven't been online in a while. That is partly because this has been a rough year in general, but the last few weeks have been particularly tragic for me.
Earlier this month I lost a VERY close friend in a car accident on a local freeway. He was killed when a tow truck hit his car at over 65 MPH. He had stopped and unbuckled due to car problems just before the impact. He was only 21 years old.
Shortly after, I was personally involved in an accident that left me unhurt but shaken up when an SUV hit the driver's-side door of my truck. The only thing that kept me from being injured was my seatbelt and a little grace from God.
And yesterday morning, my girlfriend's truck was hit by a Sherriff's officer during a high-speed pursuit North of town. She was just following some friends to the river and the other cars came out of nowhere. Her truck was practically T-boned by one officer, and it rolled multiple times and skidded on the driver's side for a good distance before settling in a ditch. Her seatbelt probably saved her life.
So, please, do yourself a huge favor... Be safe, and be smart... I don't want to bury any more of my friends...
-Josh

Josh, my condolenses on your friend. I am very pro seat belt. In my 13 years as a police officer, I have NEVER had to unbuckle someone who died in a car accident. There have been several fatalties that I have worked where the person very probably would have survived if he/she would have buckled up.

i am 100% positive seat belts saved my brother and i in a nasty roll over in new york state going steelhead fishing in '97, on my birthday, the day before his. seat belt also saved my fathers life in '89 in a really bad high speed police chase crash, where the criminal running in the other car was killed.

Sorry to hear that Josh, but I'm glad your spreading the word about seat belt use, they do save lives...Wake up people.... The company I work for actually has a seatbelt form you sign to make sure you use it. It also saves us money on our medical insurance.

sorry about your friend, kinda sad that you even have to tell people, it should be second nature. one of my best friends almost never wears it, he's been ticketed for it, sometimes he'll put it on miles into his destination. hope i never have to bury him cause of it

Sorry to hear about your friend but I'm glad to hear you and your girlfriend are ok. These are the seats I picked up for my hemi Dart. Notice the built-in shoulder harness and they are 6-way adjustable electrically. I highly recommend them for safety. These are out of a Sebring convertible.

I have to agree with scaldeddog. In the 10 years of being a firefighter I have also never had to unbuckle a seat belt frome someone that died in a car crash. Buckle up for safety! Sorry to here of your loss. krcevs

The condolences are much appreciated. I agree that it shouldn't be necessary to remind people to buckle up, but I just felt it appropriate considering the last week's turn of events.
Thanks again everyone.

That's the law in Texas. Signs say, click it or ticket. I have been using mine since I started driving 30 yrs ago. People used to get in my 68 GTS and freak when I would put on a seatbelt. Kinda funny that most would buckle up because I did.

Funny, most my friends do the same thing. To tell you the truth, I feel naked NOT using it.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. Like 268darts, people used to look at me like I was nuts for wearing my lap and shoulder belts in my 69 340 swinger. But, when I wrecked it on the far side of 90 MPH and walked away, no one laughed. At UPS if your caught rolling 1 inch without a belt you're fired. You may get you're job back once, but not the second time. Always buckle up, Joe.

My dart has a really annoying seatbelt buzzer that I went to extra expense to have re-installed when I re-did my front seats, It's actually painful to listen to. Here's a question for all you guys with the "optional" shoulder belt setup (you know, the kind that clips above your window?). Do you use the shoulder belt everytime? I know I should but honestly haven't even used it once, and lap belts by themselves just ensure face to dashboard contact. I think I'll put it on at the track though
