Rattling Doors
« on: June 01, 2008, 08:13:20 PM »

How do I get the doors on my 67' Dart to stop rattling so much. I installed new door seals but the doors still shake when im driving over bumps and such. And I don't mean a little its pretty noticable and annoying. I was at a swap meet and a vendor said theres a way to adjust the jam or the latch I couldn't really understand him. Is this true?

the part of the latch that is bolted in the jamb at the front of the quarter is threaded.  You need a big torx socket to loosen it then you can move it around and tighten it back up.

This solves a lot actually... I've also had a lock in upside down since I've owned it. (I didn't do it...)

Maybe the screws that hold the chrome for your doorpanels are loose? My rear ones were loose and couldn't find the rattle for a while. \/][

Then again, it could just be my lock rattling since it's not meant to be upside down.  Grin Also, check to make sure the doors closed. May sound like the stupidest thing ever, but my rear doors rattle like crazy at 70 when they're open.  lol (I don't sit in the back to drive so will occasionally accidentally leave a door ajar...)

If your door is actually moving around, check to see if the metal around the door striker post has not cracked all around it. It is very common after all these years that it just lets loose. Adjusting it with no metal to support it in place will do nothing.
