66 Dodge Polara rear end
« on: June 04, 2008, 05:47:11 AM »

There's a Polara rear end for sale close by listed as a 8 3/4.  It's complete drum-drum, non-posi but the ratio isn't listed (waiting on a response).  I THINK the Polara is a C-body, but correct me if I'm wrong.  If so, there is no C-body 8 3/4 according to http://www.carnut.com/specs/frear.html
Can someone help clear this up?  I want to pick it up for the price if it is as advertised, or find out what it really is.

If its a Polara its a C body in 66.Should be 6 3/4 rear.Probally a 2.76 or 2,90 gear ratio. We put a 69 Chrysler rear in my kids 62 300 when he installed the 4.10 gears. Then we out my spare 65 B body housing in because it was narrower. That rear will need cut down if you run it under a Dart.Rocky

I sure wouldn't give $300 unless it had 11x2.5 brakes and axles that could be cut down to a-body size (some c-body rears are slightly too narrow and I suspect that's one of them). Even then I probably wouldn't give over $100............

I haven't bought my wheels yet, so I could get wheels to fit.

I don't know what you mean here though...?

There is no real value in the c-body rear end housing. There is some value in the third member and brakes. The axles have value if they are the type that can be cut down to a-body length and re-splined. They all taper to a smaller diameter before the splines and can only be shortened to the wider diameter. If the wider diameter is long enough they can be made into a-body big bolt axles.

Meant 8 3/4.My kid paid 75 bucks for the 69 rear.Of course that was like 4 years ago before scrap went nuts.It had almost new drums so we put them on the 65 rear to have the 11 inch beakes. He did run it for 1 1/2 years even with slicks it held up.Rocky

Looks like I'll be skipping that then.
I have a Ford 9" w/ 31 spline axles, but I don't have a center chunk for it.  I'll probably end up having that shortened and 8 3/4 ends put on it.

8-3/4" till around '72, then 9-1/4", which can be modified to be used in a Dart.

The 11" drums are "cop drums", they are absolutely awesome at stopping from what I've heard. The 11"s are great upgrades for B-Bodies.
