Hello. I am having problems setting the toe on my 69 Dart. It had power steering originally with the 273. It now has manual with the 440. It also has the front disc brake conversion from 73 up A body with Bills tubular upper arms. On the drivers side the tie rod sleeve is turned all the way out (if I go any farther the clamps will not secure the sleeve to the tie rod end), and the passengers side is turned all the way in, but the toe setting is still out. I started by centering the steering box and steering wheel, and then tried to adjust the toe, and that is when I came upon this problem. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. gt

Sorry. Just figured I'd throw confusion into an already tense situation.

sounds to me like something had been reversed, or assembled incorrectly. UCA's should't really be causing it.
I'd pop the tie rod ends out of the knuckles, dissassemble the sleevs and inner tie rods. Make sure everything is threaded in the correct direction. Center the wheel again. center the front wheels and put it all back together.

Pics would help, but sounds like your pitman arm needs to be moved.

Strange how things work out. I went out and got a new pitman arm for the 69, Moog K7074. It looked exactly like the one on the car but tried it anyways. Installed it, centered the box, centered the steering wheel, centered the front wheels and hooked it up. It was pretty close, so good enough until I take it for a front end alignment. So I reinstalled my old pitman and all seems good. Hopefully next Friday I can get it on an alignment rack and will return the new pitman arm.
Thanks for you help.

A-bodies since 1978, this one since 1983

You were likely one turn off on the steering gear. At center the idler and pitman arms should be parallel to the frame rails.

u need to use a left and right handed thread tierod end so that adjustment screws both ends in or out...not 1 in and 1 out

Its impossible to install the tie rod ends incorrectly as the sleeve is right hand on one side and left hand on the other side, it works like a turn-buckle. Jim that is what I wanted to know, about the position of the pitman arm and the idler arm in the straight ahead position. All seems ok now, hopefully next week I can get it to the alignment shop. I am soooo close to having this on the road. Thanks to all for the replies. gt
