Header options with my set up...
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:24:59 AM »

Well I'm trying to get the exhaust lined out for my '72 Duster with a 440 and t-56. My question is do I have any other options as for headers since I running an AlterKtion? I have also removed the shock towers and filled that in. It just seems like I'll have more room to possibly use something else. I want at least a 1 3/4" primary underchassis header. I thought about trying to pick up a cheap set of B-body headers and seeing what I can do with them. I wouldn't mind taking a cheap set and having to reroute a few tubes but I wouldn't want to do it to a better set. Any insight or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Zack

If I read that correctly you have a 440 a body with a manual trans and an alterkation ?   if so any b body header should fit ... might have to do a few small mods for the clutch linkage unless you are doing a hydraulic throwout  then any header should fit ..

The proparts 2" would work too.

Yea that's correct. I am using a hydraulic throwout also so this will allow me to use about anything for a B-body?

And the Pro-parts 2" are partial fenderwell correct?

B headers are jammed against the passenger inner - if you removed that, it will work.  On the driver side, the #7 tube almost always goes right through the steering column - you have no choice but to re-route that one tube. Otherwise, they should work.

I believe 1 tube on 1 side and 2 on the other go outside the frame.

Im looking at those for my stroker B motor,

Bill, when you said the inner fender were you talking about the whole thing? I just cut out the shock towers and filled them in with a piece of metal. Would this work?

And I'm little worried about the fenderwells with tire clearance. I am running a 17x8" rim up front with like 5.625" backspacing and I'm wanting to run about a 25.5-26" tall tire thats about 9" wide. And since this is mostly a street car it worries me a little with the clearance issues.

ari440:

Are you running an exhaust system under the car, or is it race only?

I am assuming you ave a 727, transmission.  Is there adequat room for a transmission shield, or is it too close so you have to run a trans blanket?

Thanks

Thanks ari440.

First of all, beautiful car.  How fast are you running.

I want to go with the trans shield.  I am not too sure how well a blanket will work on the street.  Back to the original question, do the ProParts headers give you any problems with the tranny shield?

Thanks again.

the proparts collecters  come off when you drop a trannie down , so there easy to work with

the strap is in a bad spot if they moved it 2 inch down from where it is it would be easy to do

CSR designed it but not when its in the car................. its a pain to deal with
