4 link???
« on: June 09, 2008, 07:59:58 PM »

Any chassis or suspension guys here? I am looking at getting a 4 link put under my Street/strip Dakota project and had a couple of questions.

1. Should I go with a complete backhalve or mount the 4 link under the stock frame?

2. I am planning on using a standard parallel design 4 link but what style locater should I use? A panhard, watts, wishbone or what?

3. Should I go with heavy duty heims or a urethane bushed end?

As for the truck it is a 87 Dakota regular cab long box it is going to have a 451CI BB with a 91mm turbo. It will have a built 727 tranny and a D60. I dont need any wider tire than what the stock frame will allow. On the street I will be running 17 or 18" wheels but at the track I will be running a 15" rear wheel and slicks.

Thanks

bOb shingler: could you possibly explain why you would choose a diagonal or wishbone? The reason I ask is I keep reading conflicting info about the use of the different links on the street:( Some say wishbone or panhard only while others say a wishbone is too much maintenance on the street due to the slip joint:( Its very confusing:(  This truck will see far more street duty than strip and when I say street I mean rural chipseal road along with highway and city streets.  One other thing that has caused a little confusion is the rod ends. Are the ends for the street just a tube with a urethane bushing similar to a leaf spring eye? or is it a heim joint within a urethane busing? Could you maybe give me a brand of rod end to look for?

Thanks

the other locators let the housing move in an arc like this ) looking from the back when it moves up and down. the rod ends look like a tube with bushing and a sleeve in them. try chassis works for them.
