The Dart is slowly coming together, now registered, insured, interior mostly in, A/C charged, etc. That's the kicker... the A/C. When it comes on the engine needs a bump at the throttle or else it dies. Does anyone else have an A/C issue like this and how did you get past it? For me, I recall some cars using a throttle solenoid that would bump against the throlle arm on the carb uping the idle/RPM when the A/C was on to help the car continuing to run. It needs about 200 - 300 RPM more to overcome the A/C. That's a bit high for around town idling without the A/C on to lock it in at that level. Anyone seen one of these and or know if they are generically available? If I have to fab a bracket, I will, but I really don't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.

Sounds like you don't mind a little fabrication so here goes. 1972 Corvette, base engine, NO A/C has a ONE wire idle solenoid that will work for you. It is attached to its bracket by a large nut, so all that would be necessary would be a hole in the bracket in the right spot for your application. You will need to fab the bracket to your carb. Cost last time I bought one was about $65.00. 1990 Dodge W250 4X4 with A/C had a similar solenoid, but it has several wires to it, and might be more difficult to wire up. I don't know the cost new, but I would imagine a junkyard would yeild a few of them.
Hope this helps some!

Didn't 6 pack cars have some type of idle solenoid?

Yes, six pack cars, some AVS cars had them. On the AVS it was mounted on the passenger side of the carb and there was an extra arm on the primary throttle shaft for the solenoid. Lots of cars had them, just wander around your local wrecking yard and find the one that most looks like it would work for you.

Nothing simple is ever easy. *sigh* Thermoquads have them also but in my local yards are picked fairly clean of carbs almost the instant they hit the ground. If you're not standing there when it arrives, you don't get it kinda thing. That's why I was looking for an off the shelf one. *mumble* I guess I'll have to camp out at the local yards for a while. If you don't hear from me for a while send in the paramedics...
