I was at Englishtown yesterday when the accident happened.  What I don't understand is why Englishtown has never increased the runout area at the end of the track.  The length might have been sufficient years ago when top speeds were much less, but at 300+ there is absolutely no margin of safety if the chutes don't deploy.  I heard that the car catapulted into the woods and parts landed near Tenant Rd.  An official I talked to said that Scott was going 180 mph when his car hit the sand.   Tragic.   God Bless Scott.

Seems it always takes the loss of a life to point out the common sense rule changes that need to be made.

I wonder if they're going to start to look at redoing a lot of safety stuff on the funny cars, cuz that's 2 deaths in right about a year, and then you've got John's bad wreck, and Cruz's hand.

just makes you think a little

Did he have the improvements after the Force incident that were developed? Or is it JFR only?

My condolances to Kathy, Corey, Colin, Doug and Connie. Sad

There's a public road right there (Pension Rd, I believe) that's got a fair amount of traffic on it. That area is just geting too populated & I fear Englishtown's days are numbered.

Looks like "You Tube" pulled all the videos but I just saw it on "NHRA Today". Looks like 1 chute onlt released & that was a "streamer",  & the explosion probably took out the brakes so the car pretty much hit at near full speed it looks like --- worst F/C crash I ever saw Cry.  you could actually hear the concussion from the impact & see the boom camera rocking from the blast Shocked --- hope the cameraman was okay. This'll affect drag racing in a HUGE way! Cry

I think his car hit the base of the camera boom which is probably at least 3,000 pounds.

So sad.

I agree,

With such a dangerous sport to begin with, one would think a longer sand trap area and a better suited soft crash wall may be warranted especially for the sake of the drivers safety at those speeds.

I will say those guys are much braver than I to pilot such a terrifying machine.
